NAUI FIT

Minimum age is 18 years for this program. Certification as a NAUI Scuba Diver, NAUI Rescue Scuba Diver, NAUI Nitrox Diver, NAUI Master Scuba Diver, NAUI First Aid for the Diving Professional, NAUI Oxygen Provider (or equivalent) are required. As well as a minimum of 25 logged open water scuba dives with a minimum of 12.5 hours bottom time. 

NAUI Skin Diving Instructor

Want to begin working as a professional in the field, organizing your own courses, issuing certifications and conducting open water skin dives? NAUI Skin Diving Instructor training will enable you to join us as a leadership member and independently conduct skin diving training. Because of the growing popularity of snorkeling and skin diving, this may gain you substantial financial rewards. You can also team-teach with a NAUI Instructor, offering the skin diving portion of the Scuba Diver Course.

Overview

This is a leadership level certification course designed to train and qualify persons and issue certifications in skin (breath-hold) diving.

The course will make available to individuals, schools, camps, or similar groups NAUI Leaders who can effectively teach people to enjoy skin diving with minimal risk.

Qualifications of Graduates

o  An active-status NAUI Skin Diving Instructor may independently teach the NAUI Skin Diving course and designated specialty courses as skin diving courses and authorize NAUI to issue certifications for these.

o    An active-status NAUI Skin Diving Instructor may, while being overseen by an active-status NAUI Instructor, perform as an assistant during NAUI scuba diving courses. If certified as a scuba diver, this may include scuba training activities.

o    An active-status Skin Diving Instructor may independently perform the swimming skills evaluation and teach the skin diving portions of the NAUI Scuba Diver course.

o    An active-status NAUI Skin Diving Instructor who completes a NAUI-DAN First Aid Instructor orientation, who has completed all required NAUI-DAN orientation modules and is using the NAUI-DAN training and support materials, may teach the NAUI-DAN First Aid programs.

Prerequisites for Entering the Course

o    Minimum age is 18 years by the water phase of the course.

o    Certification as a NAUI Skin or Scuba Diver or the equivalent is required.

o    Certification as a NAUI Rescue Scuba Diver or the equivalent, or lifeguarding certification is required.

o    Current certification in NAUI First Aid for Dive Professionals or equivalent.

o    Current certification in NAUI Oxygen Provider or equivalent.

o    A minimum of 25 logged skin dives is required. Dives shall be varied in environment, depth and activities.


NAUI Assistant Instructor (AI)

As an  Assistant Instructor , you will be authorized to teach all aspects of skin and scuba diving under the supervision of a NAUI Instructor. This is the best possible way to develop your instructional skills. The rating can be a step toward full Instructor, or an end in itself. Match your time, talent and interests with the NAUI programs near you, and enjoy the adventure of personal and professional enhancement as a NAUI leader.

Overview

The NAUI Assistant Instructor rating is a  NAUI leadership-level certification . The program is designed to introduce students to diving instruction basics. It also tests individuals in fundamental water skills needed to be capable assistants. Certification authorizes individuals to assist active-status NAUI Instructors in the conduct of dive training. NAUI Assistant Instructor certification is a highly recommended step in the progression to NAUI Instructor.

Qualifications of Graduates

o    A current NAUI Assistant Instructor is qualified to assist active-status NAUI Instructors in teaching skin and scuba diving during sanctioned diving courses provided the activities and locale are similar to those of the training. Additional training or experience is to be obtained by the Assistant Instructor who desires to assist in highly specialized training activities, such as deep, wreck penetration, cavern or ice dive s .

o    A NAUI Assistant Instructor can be counted toward student-instructor ratios.

o   After assisting an active-status NAUI Instructor with at least one complete NAUI Scuba Diver course, a current NAUI Assistant Instructor is qualified, if all other prerequisites are met, to enter a NAUI Divemaster Training Course (DMC) and/or Instructor Training Course (ITC). 

Prerequisites for Entering the Course

o    Minimum age is 18 years by the water phase of the course. 

o    Current registration as a NAUI FIT Program graduate.

o    Current certification in NAUI First Aid for the Diving Professional or equivalent.

o    Current certification in NAUI Oxygen Provider or equivalent.

o    A minimum of 50 logged open water scuba dives with a minimum of 25 hours bottom time. Dives shall be varied in environment, depth, and activities.

o    Medical Approval - Verification of good physical condition as documented by a medical examination and unconditional approval for diving by a licensed physician within the preceding 12 months.

NAUI Divemaster (DM)

Would you like to lead dives and dive trips and take certified divers on vacations to the world's best dive sites? Many Divemasters are employed full-time or work independently supervising certified divers during club, store, resort or charter tour and travel activities. As a NAUI Divemaster you enjoy again and again adventures to which you introduce your clients. NAUI Divemaster certification is another option leading to NAUI Instructor qualification.

Overview

The NAUI Divemaster rating is the highest NAUI leadership-level certification with the exception of Instructor. The program is designed to train experienced and knowledgeable divers to organize and conduct enjoyable open water dives for certified divers.

Qualifications of Graduates

o   An active-status NAUI Divemaster is qualified to organize and conduct dives for certified divers if the diving activities and locale approximate those in which the Divemaster is trained. Additional training, knowledge or experience is necessary for the Divemaster who desires to organize highly specialized activities, such as wreck penetration, cavern or ice dives or enter a new locale.

o   An active-status NAUI Divemaster is qualified to organize and conduct NAUI Recognition (such as International Diver) and Experience Programs (such as Stingray Experience) and award appropriate recognition materials to participants.

o    An active-status NAUI Divemaster is qualified to assist an active-status NAUI Instructor in diving courses.

o    An active-status NAUI Divemaster who completes a NAUI-DAN First Aid Instructor orientation, who has completed all required NAUI-DAN orientation modules and is using the NAUI-DAN training and support materials, may teach the NAUI-DAN First Aid programs.

o    If all other prerequisites are met, a current NAUI Divemaster is qualified to enter a NAUI Instructor Training Course (ITC).

Prerequisites for Entering the Course

o    Minimum age is 18 years by the water phase of the course.

o    Current registration as a NAUI FIT Program graduate.

o    Current certification in NAUI First Aid for Dive Professionals or equivalent.

o    Current certification in NAUI Oxygen Provider or equivalent.

o    A minimum of 60 logged open water scuba dives with a minimum of 30 hours bottom time. Dives shall be varied in environment, depth, and activities.

o    Medical Approval - Verification of good physical condition as documented by a medical examination and unconditional approval for diving by a licensed physician within the preceding 12 months.


NAUI Instructor Training Course (ITC)

NAUI values and respects the knowledge, skills and abilities of its instructors. As such, NAUI Instructors are authorized and can be approved to teach every level of diving in which they possess the training, knowledge and experience. NAUI also allows its instructors to develop their own "instructor specified" specialty courses. If you are someone who seeks even more adventure and specialization, NAUI provides pathways to gaining Public Safety Diver, Technical and Freediving Instructor ratings.

Overview

The NAUI Instructor Training Course (ITC) is designed to train and qualify NAUI Instructor member applicants. During the course candidate instructors learn effective methods to teach skin and scuba diving in compliance with NAUI diving course standards.

The course assures the NAUI membership that candidates who receive certification as NAUI Instructors have the knowledge, skills, fitness and proper attitude to do so.

Qualifications of Graduates

o    Certified NAUI Instructor course graduates are qualified to apply for NAUI Instructor membership in any status provided for in the bylaws of the association.

o    An active-status NAUI Instructor may independently teach NAUI sanctioned courses and authorize NAUI certification for graduates. An active-status NAUI Instructor may independently conduct NAUI recognition and experience programs and authorize formal recognition for graduates.

o    An active-status NAUI Instructor who completes a NAUI-DAN First Aid Instructor orientation, who has completed all required NAUI-DAN orientation modules and is using the NAUI-DAN training and support materials, may teach the NAUI-DAN First Aid programs.

Prerequisites For Entering The Course

o    Minimum age is 18 years by the water phase of the course.

o    Current certification as a NAUI Assistant Instructor or NAUI Divemaster or other agency leaders who are NAUI FIT Program graduates.

o    Current certification in NAUI First Aid for Dive Professionals or equivalent.

o    Current certification in NAUI Oxygen Provider or equivalent.

o    Certified as a NAUI Nitrox Diver or equivalent.

o    A minimum of 60 logged open water scuba dives with a minimum of 30 hours bottom time. Dives shall be varied in environment, depth, and activities.

o    Instructor candidates must pass the NAUI Instructor Prequalification Examination prior to the start of the ITC.

o    Medical Approval - Verification of good physical condition as documented by a medical examination and unconditional approval for diving by a licensed physician within the preceding 12 months.


NAUI Instructor Crossover (ICC)

The NAUI Instructor Crossover Course (ICC) is designed to train and qualify applicants in good standing with non-NAUI recreational scuba training organizations as a NAUI Instructor member.  During the course, candidate instructors learn effective methods to teach skin and scuba diving in compliance with NAUI Diving Course Standards.

Get Started

Minimum age is 18 years for this program. Certification as a scuba instructor with a minimum of one year experience and has taught or assisted with at least two diving instruction programs is required. Completion of the NAUI FIT Program as well as current certification in NAUI First Aid for Dive Professionals, NAUI Nitrox Diver, (or equivalent) and a minimum of 100 logged open water scuba dives with a minimum of 50 hours bottom time are also required. What’s Next?

Upon completion of the NAUI Instructor Crossover Course (ICC), provided all prerequisites are met, graduates are qualified to apply for NAUI Instructor membership. Active-status NAUI Instructors may independently teach NAUI sanctioned courses and authorize NAUI certification for graduates.

NAUI Instructor Trainer (IT)

The Instructor Trainer designation is a formal NAUI leadership designation, not a certification. The NAUI Instructor Trainer designation (IT) provides recognition to NAUI Instructors who have completed a combination of training and evaluated experience specific to the preparing, training, evaluating and counseling of NAUI Instructor candidates.

Get Started

Minimum age is 21 years by the water phase of the course. Any active-status NAUI Instructor who has completed a NAUI Staff Training Workshop, logged a minimum of 200 logged open water scuba dives, conducted and registered at least 150 scuba certifications of which at least 25% are continuing education and leadership courses, and staffed/participated in 3 ITCs (ITP/IQP) for at least 100 student contact hours are eligible to attend an Instructor Trainer Workshop (ITW). What’s Next?

Active-status NAUI Instructors designated as Instructor Trainer may direct the Staff Training Workshop (STW), Instructor Training Program (ITP), and staff an Instructor Training Course (ITC), Instructor Qualification Program (IQP), or Instructor Trainer Workshop (ITW) in any position other than Course Director.


NAUI Course Director (CD)

The Course Director designation is a formal NAUI leadership designation, not a certification. The NAUI Course Director designation (CD) provides recognition to NAUI Instructors who have completed a combination of training and evaluated experience specific to the preparing, training, evaluating and counseling of NAUI Instructor Trainers as well as Instructor candidates.

Get Started

Minimum age is 21 years by the water phase of the course. Any NAUI Instructor Trainer who has 200 contact hours training and evaluating NAUI Instructor candidates at instructor level courses, conducted and evaluated candidate performance for at least three Instructor Trainer Programs (ITP), and conducted and evaluated candidate performance for at least three Instructor Qualification Programs (IQP), one of which may be an Instructor Crossover Course (ICC), may attend a Course Director Workshop (CDW).
